but... NOT Michigan or Connecticut! Some
beliefs about Chufa
as a weed.
To
the best of our knowledge this
variety is not a pest anywhere in the known universe. If it were
persistent,
we probably would not get to sell to the same people year after year.
In
the north country (read Michigan or Connecticut) the tubers freeze and
turn into mush upon
thawing in spring. This plant very seldom sends up a seed head and we
have
never found a viable seed in our many years of trying to manipulate the
genes.
(LOOK OUT Monsanto!!!!)
Conclusions:
What we
sell will not
become a weed in Michigan or Connecticut. Bottom
Line:
You
Michiganites who
want to enjoy horchata, use them to catch carp or just watch them grow
will
have to have them shipped to a friend in Ohio, (Wisconsin in the upper
peninsula)
and smuggle them across the border. Oh how easy it is to become a
criminal
in the USA!PS: If you are using a water route, check with your Canadian friends to see if they could use a few also. We are unfamiliar about how things are done in Connecticut, but we are not allowed to ship there, either. |
